September of 2008 will mark the 50th anniversary of SIGINT in CFS Alert. The Canadian Forces Information Operations Group (CFIOG), formerly Canadian Forces Supplementary Radio System (CFSRS) is currently in the process of organizing various activities to appropriately mark this historic occasion.

One of the initiatives being undertaken is to produce a photo album that will offer a historically accurately depiction of the evolution of CFS Alert from its inception to its current state. The other is creating a Calendar displaying some of the photos. Both items will be made available to all. Our hope is that, through various efforts and initiatives, we will be able to keep the purchase cost minimal. To that end we are seeking out all personnel who may have any connection with Alert and soliciting from them any photographs and/or slides that might help us in this endeavour.

We will willingly accept any/all offers for consideration, however we are not specifically looking for photos that are strictly representative of individuals or groups of personnel. While many photos will include personnel, our focus is buildings, facilities, aircraft, landmarks, rooms, signs, special activities (sun rise carnival, CBC show etc), that will contribute to telling the history of Alert. Providing dates and/or time frames would also be of great value.

Having actual photos and/or slides would be most beneficial. Every effort will be made to ensure that submitted items are returned to their originators. We fully appreciate the irreplaceable nature of some of these items and we are prepared to accept soft (electronic) copies.
