These photos show the gravesite on Cape Belknap of the 9 people who were killed on July 31, 1950 while attempting to make an airdrop of equipment into Alert. The parachute became tangled in the tail of the Lancaster aircraft, it plunged to the ground and exploded on impact just to the south of where the Station is located and to the west of the Weather Station. The plaque on the cairn reads as follows: "In a supply mission to the Arctic Weather Station at Alert those aboard a Royal Canadian Air Force Lancaster were killed 31 July 1950. The task in which they gave their lives continues. Flying Officer TD Martin Wing Commander DT French Flying Officer JE McCutcheon Charles J Hubbard Leading Aircraftsman RL Sprange Doctor DW Kirk Flight Lieutenant FL Swinton Flight Lieutenant LM MacLean Erected in their memory by the Arctic Institute of North America with the support of Mrs. Hubbard and the RCAF." |

This is the plate on the cairn in memory of the people who perished in a C130 crash in October 1991. The cairn is near the graves of the Lancaster crew on Cape Belknap. The photo is courtesy of Derek Bywater. The inscriptsion reads: "In memory of the personnel who died in the crash of Hercules 130322 on October 30, 1991. Capt Trepanier JP, CD CFCC HQ MWO Jardine JT, CD CFB Trenton WO Grimsley R, CD CFCC HQ Mcpl Pitre JR, CD 435 Sqn Edmonton"
