Lancaster Crash Site - 1977

Bill Bohn Photo
This photo shows a little more detail of the crash debris of the Lancaster that went down in 1950. The mug is navy hand George Green. The pipe running through the crash site is the water line from Upper Dumbell Lake. It was reinstalled in 1976 after it froze up. I was there at the time and there were some pretty shakey moments, however with the steady hand of CPO2 Jack Wittingham over the course of about a month the line was repaired. In the meantime water was again hauled to the Station by truck, running almost 24/7. There would have been big time trouble had the truck broken down!!
