During Canada's Centennial year, 1967, the Polar Continental Shelf Project attempted to place a transponder on the floor of the Arctic Ocean at the exact North Pole. The personnel tasked with providing communications the group and connecting them to the south were members of CFS Alert Amateur Radio club.
From bottom around to right they were:
Bill Dyke, technician, and operators Gene Angrignon, Harry Bolton, Larry O'Donnel, Bob Dennett, Jim Troyanek and CO, Maj Fred McQuillan.
Click on the links below for the whole story as it appeared in the military magazine "Sentinel" in 1969, and see how close they managed to get the transponder to the Pole.
