Dear Fellow Signallers;
This past weekend turned out to be another dandy. We experienced wall to wall sunshine and temperatures in the 20C-24C range. Excellent!! A couple guys had their relatives on board which boosted our numbers up. A total of 64 persons attended, including Tom Bircham's daughter and family from Germany. We also had several "new bloods" on board and we hope that they will see fit to return in future years.
Although chef/organizer Carole, aborted this year, Freda Lapointe took over the organization of the food and did a bang up job of it. She prevailed upon, but not too hard, such notable assistants, in no particular order, as Bev Blair, Alice Gradwell, Hiroko Currie, Lil Bandurka, Bonnie Bowerman, and Caroline and Harvey Gigun to set up and help with the dinner Buffet. It was noted that Jack Clegg dropped a huge tray of sandwiches into the buffet as well. Harvey and Caroline were as usual extremely competent in running "Swampy's Road Kill Cafe" again this year. I wonder how many people who ate the excellent "hamburgers", knew they were actually eating "buffalo burgers"??? Colin Gillis again attended on Sunday morning and provided the pancakes and Fran Ziebart chipped in with her usual large pot of baked beans. It should be noted here that Swampy was late crawling out of his rack to tell us where the sauages were, so it was a meatless Sunday morning pancake breakfast. I may have missed someone who provided goodies and helped. If I did, I do apologize sincerely for that error.
Several hundred dollars was raised with the auction which we held again this year. Items were provided by Carole Amo, Al Currie, Frank Marsden, Dave Munro. Thanks folks - all the money went into the Kitty. If I missed anyone, please let me know and I will correct the error. As you are aware, we are a loose not for profit organization and every little bit helps.
Swampy, Frank and I hope you all have a great year and we look forward to seeing you again August 24-25-26, 2012. Until then take care and good health to all.
Sincerely
Jim Troyanek
