"BC Legislative Buildings" - 1940's

Marge sent along this clipping from the Victoria, BC Daily Colonist, dated Saturday January 1, 1944. Apparently servicemen and women were wondering what the Legislature looked like when it was all lit up. The caption on the clipping reads:
"By special request from servicemen on this Coast the above illustration is published showing the Legislative Buildings in this captial city of British Columbia illuminated for the holiday season. The picture was taken by The Daily Colonist camerman, and recalls happier days when the gaily-lit Buildings extended a welcome to thousands of vixitors who were to enjoy the hospitality of the city on the shores of the then peaceful Pacific."

The photo below was taken and captioned by Marge Worby in December of 1946. (Seems to me she did a fine job with the old Kodak!!)

The small picture is the Parliament Buildings in Victoria. They had not been lit during the war years, but when war ended on came the lights for the Christmas season. I took this picture with an old Kodak camera with bellows, had it propped up on a garage stone fence down the street.

(Webmaster note: The BC Legislative Buildings have not changed much over the past 57 years. The buildings are lit every night, 365 days of the year and look almost exactly as they did in the mid 1940's.)
