3SWS Personnel March 1946
"Riflewoman Marge Worby.
The men who had manned the DF hut in Nanaimo were provided with a rifle for protection.
After the men left for Australia we gals had to take our turn (wo)manning the DF hut. We were
provided a pistol of some sort sans instructions on how to use the damn thing. Later back in Victoria,
our interest piqued, Marge Worby and I joined a military rifle team. I became an excellent
markswoman with the 303 Enfield on application, but any moving target was safe from me.
I was a lousy snap shooter. We did get to one big meet in Vancouver.
Marge and I would take a streetcar to Esquimalt for our proctice, rifles in tow. I can remember
overhearing a conversation between a couple of women who were aghast that women in the Army had
to carry arms. 'What is this country coming to?'"
